Challenges with the maize crop started straight away but thankfully everything’s now on track… As it was dry early on (i.e. during May), for the first time ever, the ground had to be completely irrigated before the maize seeds could even be planted.

Nevertheless, the heatwave in June provided a growth spurt and everything was on target to fulfil the old adage that describes the aim for maize of “thigh high by July”.
