How to pick pumpkins

At Undley Pumpkin Patch, we offer a choice for how to pick your own pumpkins (PYO pumpkins). Here are step by step guides for each of the pumpkin picking options…

Picking pumpkins from the vine

At the 2017 Undley Pumpkin Patch, we will have over double the number of staff on hand compared with our 2016 event. One of our team’s main roles this year will be supporting pumpkin pickers who want to pick pumpkins direct from the pumpkin plant. Here’s how:

1 Collect a wheelbarrow. We have a fleet of wheelbarrows on hand at Undley Pumpkin Patch specifically to help with pumpkin picking and transporting picked pumpkins back to the car. We’d be so grateful if, directly after purchasing your pumpkin(s), you could take then straight to the car and then return the wheelbarrow to the fleet so that we always have enough wheelbarrows to go around.

2 Walk into the field where the pumpkin vines and pumpkin plants are growing. It’s a good idea to wear suitable footwear (only wellies if it’s wet) and we’d also be really grateful if you could take care not to step on any plants – feel welcome to walk within the natural alleyways that exist between the rows of pumpkin plants.

3 Take time to choose your perfect pumpkin(s). At Undley Pumpkin Patch we offer over 20 varieties of pumpkin and literally thousands of pumpkins will be available so take your time and choose carefully your perfect pumpkin and feel welcome to pick more than one… Take care when touching the pumpkins as the stems and vines can be coarse.

4 Collect your pumpkin and put it in the wheelbarrow and take it to the “pumpkin pay station”. Carefully lift the pumpkin(s) you’ve picked into the wheelbarrow and then head back across the field to the covered area and the pumpkin pay station (clearly signposted “pumpkin pay station”).

5 Pay for your pumpkin based on its size. At Undley Pumpkin Patch, we use pre-sized rings that we put around the circumference of the pumpkin to calculate its cost. Prices start from £1. (By the way, we can accept card payments and you can get cash back at Undley Pumpkin Patch too.)

6 Stay and enjoy your family day out! The team at Undley Pumpkin Patch hopes you have a wonderful family day out and feel welcome to call on us at any stage if you need help, guidance or support. Also, do check out out new inflatable attractions and supersize Maize Maze.

Picking pumpkins from the “sea” of pumpkins

The famous “sea” of pumpkins will be available again at the 2017 Undley Pumpkin Patch event and provides an incredible spectacle as well as the second pumpkin picking option. Here’s how to PYO pumpkins this way:
